LOST CULTURES: THE AZTECS book - Wesley to speak at Barnes and Noble Booksellers on the
Plaza, Kansas City
Black and white photographer and author Wesley Billingslea, in partnership with Barnes and
Noble Booksellers on the Plaza, are happy to announce several events which continue to support
the mission of Barnes and Noble’s community involvement and Wesley’s ongoing struggle
for human rights.
Working closely with Debra Hussey, community relations manager for Barnes and Noble, Wesley
will participate in their annual teacher appreciation week. The events are as follows:
October 17th, 6 pm at the Barnes and Noble café:
Open reception for educators and the general public.
* Wesley’s black and white photos will also be on display.
October 16th & 18th:
Presentations to several schools in conjunction with Barnes & Noble.
Lost Cultures, a series of books from documentary photographer Wesley Billingslea will focus
on raising awareness about a number of cultures that have either been forgotten or misunderstood.
These “lost cultures” have much in common – from the economic survival
of their people, whose lives are often filled with racism and endless human rights challenges,
to the attempts to keep their own ancient traditions alive.
Lost Cultures: The Aztecs, Teotl Publishing, the first in this enlightening series
of books,
will finally reveal the truth about one of the most prolific and often misunderstood
civilizations in history and how, despite beliefs to the contrary, its people live on
today. From human sacrifices to the Spanish conquest, one of the first known acts of genocide,
this book will provide a truthful and unflinching view of the Aztecs’ real history,
not an account contrived by outsider.
The book, along with the accompanying Lost Cultures photo exhibit, has successfully garnered
momentum in raising sensitivity to cultural diversity and human rights. The Aztec exhibit
has received extensive coverage from KMBC (ABC), KSHB (NBC), the Kansas City Star, KCUR and
the former Kansas City magazine.
Lost Cultures: The Aztecs has already sold through its’ first two printings and has
quickly been widely embraced in Europe.
The Guadalupe Centers, 1015 Avenida Cesar E Chavez,
Kansas City, MO 64108, permanently hosts an extensive Aztec exhibit from Wesley.
